Indonesia seeks to bolster Muslim economies through D-8

Indonesia seeks to strengthen Muslim-majority economics and shield them from global volatility through the Developing Eight (D-8) group as the country prepares to host it on 15th April in Jakarta.

According to ANTARA, D-8 is a development cooperation group of emerging economies including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey, while Azerbaijan became a recent addition to the group as the ninth member, last year.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Nasir said, the preparations are nearing completion and several leaders have already given positive signals to formally attend the event.

"Through D-8, we want to reinforce the economic role of Muslim-majority countries so they can better weather an unstable global economic environment," said Arrmanatha.

He added that invitations were sent earlier this month, with official responses expected in the coming weeks. Informal indications from multiple leaders suggest strong participation.

Alongside the leaders' summit, Indonesia will host a ministerial meeting and a special session on Palestine involving D-8 members and five additional countries from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
